Éric Alonzo
Born in Castres in 1973, Éric Alonzo is a DPLG-qualified architect, lecturer and Doctor of Architecture.
Having published a book in 2005 on the history of the roundabout (Du rond-point au giratoire), he published L’Architecture de la voie, histoire et théories in 2018. This book is based on his doctoral thesis, which was awarded the First European Prize Manuel de Solà-Morales in 2017, recognising the best thesis in urban planning in Europe.
At the School of Architecture, City and Territories, which he joined in 2001, he teaches a course on the history of infrastructure and co-directs the DSA in Urban Planning, a post-master’s programme in urban design and landscape architecture.
He is also director of the School’s research laboratory, the Observatoire de la condition suburbaine (OCS), where, together with Sébastien Marot, he founded the journal Marnes, document d’architecture and, since 2020, has co-directed the partnership chair « le littoral comme territoire de projets ».
Éric Alonzo also served as Chair of the Teaching Council from 2015 to 2018, Vice-Chair of the Research Committee within the Pedagogical and Scientific Council, and an elected member of the Technical Committee from 2018 to 2022. At Gustave Eiffel University, he was elected to the Academic Council, where he is a member of the ‘Strategy and Foresight’ committee, and sits on the ‘Public Policy Support’ committee.
In 2020, Éric Alonzo was appointed an associate member of the Île-de-France Regional Environmental Authority (General Inspectorate for the Environment and Sustainable Development) and regularly acts as an expert for the ministries responsible for urban planning and higher education. In particular, he is a member of the scientific advisory board for the Ministry for Ecological Transition’s Land Transport Infrastructure, Ecosystem and Landscape (Ittecop) programme.
He also teaches at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées and taught a course on the ‘History of Public Space’ at the École nationale des travaux publics de l’État from 2003 to 2025.
From 2008 to 2009, he served as a project officer at the Ministry of Culture, within the scientific task force for the international consultation on the Greater Paris project.
