In the transition from the twentieth to the twenty-first century, the family, with its stable, heteronormative relationships based on women's housework, has lost its status as a model for defining strategies and room configurations for domestic life. Some architects have responded to the social changes in domestic life by designing systems of relationships between rooms in which people become the protagonists of encounters, participation, appropriation and new agreements, capable of articulating the relationships between individuals and the community, and resulting in a type of habitat characterized by devices that promote the sharing of moments of domestic life for the genesis of neighborhood units between inhabitants.

Coordinated by Anna Rosellini, the lecture series aims to discuss the concept and role of the room within the habitat in the wake of social and environmental phenomena, in the European and Western context as well as in other global traditions. The lectures also aim to extend reflections to the collective spaces of the building, city or territory, which are increasingly important for the genesis of a sense of community, and the development of habitats characterized by the coexistence of different living species.
