Frédérique Mocquet

Frédérique Mocquet is an architect and doctor of architecture, a graduate of Ensa Paris-Malaquais. She also trained in applied arts and design at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art Olivier de Serres (ENSAAMA, Paris).

Her research focuses on photographic representations of the environment created and used in various spatial projects, from built objects to large territories. At the crossroads of planning, urbanism, and architecture, visual studies, and environmental humanities, her work focuses in particular on the imaginaries and representations of nature and landscapes and the roles that images play in project processes and the configuration of territories.

Frédérique Mocquet defended her doctoral thesis entitled La représentation du territoire en projet. A History of the Photographic Observatory of Landscape, and has since continued her research at the OCS in collaboration with various local authorities, institutions, and organizations. Her work is regularly communicated and published. In 2025, she published the book The Photographic Observatory of Landscape: A Politics of the Gaze with Créaphis.

She joined Ensa Paris-Est in 2016 and was appointed to the position of associate professor at the end of June 2021. She also teaches undergraduate courses in the field of territory and master's courses in the Transformation program, where she is co-responsible for the seminar and a project studio.

Frédérique Mocquet is a member of the steering committee of the ENSA scientific and educational network “Perspectives Rurales” (formerly ERPS). She is also an elected member of the Research Commission (CR) and the Educational and Scientific Council (CPS). Finally, she is also an elected member of the Academic Council of Gustave Eiffel University.
