DPEA Architecture Post-Carbone

Architecture of the Planetary Boundaries is the continuation of the Post-Carbon Architecture (PoCa) postgraduate programme launched in 2013 by Jean François Blassel (engineer-architect, founder of Span and winner of the 2017 Équerre d'argent award in the “Ouvrage d’art” category). He led the programme until 2024, together with Raphaël Ménard (engineer-architect, PhD in architecture and president of Arep).

    Presentation of PoCa
The climate crisis, the depletion of fossil fuels, the increasing scarcity of resources and the sixth extinction: these four revolutions are turning the world upside down, and with it the theories and practices of design, architecture, urban planning and landscape. Against the backdrop of these radical changes, the Post-Carbon Architecture postgraduate programme delivered the knowledge, methods and tools needed to interpret and act upon the ecological transition.
The foundation of this training was built around a diverse and progressive curriculum, drawing on the fields of architecture, urban and regional planning, and the sciences, techniques and culture of construction. The aim was to focus on four main themes: climate, bioclimatic design and comfort; energy, materials, construction and production; life and biodiversity.

    Publications of the PoCa
Between 2013 and 2024, the students conducted nearly fifty studies that led to the publication of the “Cahiers du PoCa”. Vous retrouverez Following this link you will find all these works to which Ensa Paris-Est and external partners from contracting authorities, construction companies, public institutions and project managers have contributed.
