Federico Diodato

Federico Diodato is an architect and urban planner, holds a PhD in architecture, is a lecturer at ENSA Nancy, and teaches at the University of Bologna. He is a permanent member of LHAC, ENSA Nancy, and an associate member of OCS, ENSA Paris-Est. A practicing architect at the Faire agency, he is a member of the Syndicat de l'Architecture (SA) and the International Union of Architects (UIA). Since September 2024, he has co-led the New Ruralities - Architecture and Living Environments Chair at ENSA Nancy, ENSAIA, and AgroParisTech, and he participates in the Perspectives Rurales network.

His research focuses on two main areas:
The first is the study of the relationship between production activities and the territory, in particular by analyzing the tools used to develop business parks in France since the 1960s. The research analyzes the socio-environmental impact of these tools and opens up strategies for development that can maintain and enhance the territory over the long term.

The second consists of tracing the genealogy of the “territorialist” approach, which aims to establish a synergistic relationship between human activities and territorial resources. Based on work carried out in the archives of Patrick Geddes during a period as a visiting researcher at the University of Edinburgh in 2022, the aim is to highlight the connections and adaptations of this thinking up to the present day.

Federico Diodato combines teaching and research with his work as an architect: from 2015 to 2019, he worked as a project manager at the Bureau des paysages, an agency managed by Alexandre Chemetoff, on architectural, urban, and landscape issues, and he is currently a partner in the architectural firm faire.

Since January 2020, he has been journal manager of the scientific journal The European Journal of Creative Practices in Cities and Landscapes [CPCL], published by the University of Bologna and TU Delft, and managing director of the CPCL Series of books published by the Dutch publishing house Bk Books.
