Drawing on her work, projects and experiences, Raphaëlle Hondelatte will use this lecture to develop her concept of housing and the ways in which it might be reimagined. How can architecture challenge established frameworks and bring about new ways of living, occupying space and residing that break with traditional norms?

Raphaëlle Hondelatte, born in Bordeaux in 1967, is an architect and senior lecturer at ENSA Versailles, where she has been teaching in the field of TPCAU since 2002. Having graduated from ENSAP Bordeaux in 1997, she began her career in Bordeaux, where designing detached houses fuelled her thinking on housing. Winner of the NAJAP awards in 2002, she founded, with Mathieu Laporte in Paris that same year, the practice Hondelatte Laporte Architectes, which has developed numerous projects for public and private clients and received several awards, including a shortlisting for the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2011 (European Prize for Contemporary Architecture).

Since 2017, Raphaëlle Hondelatte has been practising in Paris through her own firm, Raphaëlle Hondelatte Architecte. Alongside her project work, she acted as a consultant architect for social housing providers until 2021. Her architectural practice is regularly featured in publications. Raphaëlle Hondelatte has also taken part in numerous exhibitions and conferences, both in France – notably in Paris, Rennes, Nantes and Marseille – and abroad, in Madrid, Bilbao, Venice, Düsseldorf, Tokyo and Buenos Aires.

Organised by the architects and lecturers Tristan Chadney, Laurent Esmilaire and Éric Lapierre, the ‘Tuesday Lectures’ series ‘Habiter/Exister’ invites architects to present a select number of buildings in detail, using them as a basis to share their conceptual perspectives on the broader issue of housing.
