In the 1950s and 1960s, in the heart of the American countryside, a small wooden house with a barn was home to the first underground network of drag queens. Diane and Kate are now 80 years old. At the time, they were part of this secret organisation. Today, they recount this forgotten yet essential chapter in the early history of trans identity.
In keeping with the ‘Metamorphoses’ theme of the 26th edition of Mois du doc, Ensa Paris-Est presents a screening of Casa Susanna, a film by Sébastien Lifshitz that explores gender identities and trans identity in the United States of the 1950s and 1960s, through testimonies and archive footage of the famous “Casa Susanna”, where a life far removed from the social and political conventions of the time was possible.
