Federico Diodato
Federico Diodato is an architect and urban planner with a doctorate in architecture. He is a lecturer at ENSA Nancy and teaches at the University of Bologna. He is a permanent member of the LHAC, ENSA Nancy, and an associate member of the OCS, ENSA Paris-Est. A practising architect with the faire agency, he is a member of the Syndicat de l'Architecture (SA) and the Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA). Since September 2024 he has been co-director of the Nouvelles ruralités - Architecture et milieux vivants chair at ENSA Nancy, ENSAIA and AgroParisTech, and a member of the Perspectives Rurales network.
His research focuses on two main areas:
The first is the study of the relationship that production activities establish with the territory, in particular by analysing the planning tools for business sites developed in France since the 1960s. The research analyses the socio-environmental impact of these tools, and points the way towards development strategies capable of maintaining and enhancing the area over the long term.
The second involves tracing the genealogy of the 'territorialist' approach, which aims to establish a synergistic relationship between human activities and territorial resources. Based on work carried out in the archives of Patrick Geddes, during a period of visiting research at the University of Edinburgh in 2022, the aim is to highlight the filiations and acclimatizations of this thinking up to the present day.
Federico Diodato combines teaching and research with his work as an architect: from 2015 to 2019 he worked as a project manager at the Bureau des paysages, an office managed by Alexandre Chemetoff, on architectural, urban and landscape issues, and is currently an associate of the architectural office faire.
Since January 2020, he has been journal manager of the scientific journal The European Journal of Creative Practices in Cities and Landscapes [CPCL], published by the University of Bologna and TU Delft, and managing director of the CPCL Series of books published by the Dutch publishing house Bk Books.
