Julien Boidot

Julien Boidot is a DPLG-qualified architect (Nantes School of Architecture, 2007).

From 2007 to 2017, he worked in close collaboration with Émilien Robin. Together, they developed numerous public commission projects, particularly in areas where urban and contemporary issues are most hotly debated, away from major cities. In 2005 and 2012, they were winners of the Europan competition, and in 2014 they received the Albums des jeunes architectes et paysagistes (AJAP) awards from the Ministry of Culture. In 2017, they were shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award – European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture for their project for community workshops in Poigny-la-Forêt (78).

At the same time, for seven years, Julien Boidot worked with Armand Nouvet as a project manager, primarily on the construction of 20 experimental housing units on Rue des Orteaux in Paris, completed in 2013 (a project nominated for the Mies Awards and awarded a mention in the Équerre d’Argent).

In 2016, he co-curated the exhibition Nouvelles Richesses at the Venice Architecture Biennale alongside the AJAP14 collective and Frédéric Bonnet (Grand Prix de l’Urbanisme).

He founded Atelier Julien Boidot in 2017, which focuses on creating public architecture in France, most often in ordinary contexts. Through a continuous exploration of the use of material resources, programmatic standardisation, innovation and the economic factors that govern the act of building today, the presence of these architectural works is envisaged as the creation of common goods that have a generous impact beyond their mere construction.

Since 2016, he has been a government architectural consultant in the Gers.

Julien Boidot joined ENSA Paris-Est in 2013 and now teaches there as a senior lecturer in TPCAU, notably within the ‘Transformation’ Master’s programme.
